Pediatric Services

Because children's developing bodies are distinctly different from adults, diseases and illnesses affect them in different ways. Children require specialized medical and nursing care that considers their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth. Making children feel better during their illnesses and conquering their fears about diagnostic tests and treatment methods takes extraordinary qualities that are possessed by the board-certified pediatricians and specially trained pediatric nurses on staff at Holy Name Medical Center.

The Medical Center's pediatric services include:
  • an inpatient pediatrics unit staffed by pediatric nurses certified in pediatric advanced life support.
  • around-the-clock coverage in the Medical Center by board-certified pediatricians.
  • an asthma fast track program that begins in the emergency room with medical and respiratory treatment. Once stabilized, patients are brought to a room in the pediatrics unit where they continue to receive treatment and are monitored. The goal of the program is to eliminate waiting time and patients' anxiety in the emergency room and to discharge patients the same day if medically appropriate.
  • a pediatrics clinic in the outpatient department that meets daily and is staffed by board-certified pediatricians.
  • pediatric surgery - including many outpatient procedures - performed by specially trained pediatric surgeons and subspecialists, including pediatric urologists.
A Special Care Nursery where babies who need extra medical attention following birth are cared for by board-certified neonatologists and nurses with special training in neonatal care and advanced life support. The Sniffles Club day care program for mildly ill children.
