Dialysis Center

Dialysis is a method of purifying the blood and performing other functions of the kidneys for patients with end-stage renal disease (whose kidneys have failed). Holy Name Medical Center's Regional Dialysis Center - one of the largest in the nation to be based at a community Medical Center - meets or exceeds all clinical standards set forth by the Trans-Atlantic Renal Council and enjoys a high level of patient satisfaction.

Because the Regional Dialysis Center is located within a Medical Center, patients have easy access to a full range of emergency services, ancillary services, and medical specialists should the need arise. Comprising 37 stations for acute and chronic hemodialysis, the Regional Dialysis Center also has facilities for self-care hemodialysis. The staff provides instruction in home hemodialysis for patients who meet certain criteria. The center welcomes traveling and transient patients, whose dialysis care can be arranged by calling 201-833-3225.

The Regional Dialysis Center's team of board-certified nephrologists, nurses, social workers, and dietitians encourage patients to keep active, maintain independence, and focus on a positive future through a program modeled after the Life Options Rehabilitation Advisory Council's "Five Es":
  • ENCOURAGEMENT - Patients partner with healthcare professionals to take control of their lives and maintain a sense of purpose.
  • EDUCATION - Patients learn about their illness and its treatment, in an effort to better manage it.
  • EXERCISE - Patients stay fit to gain more energy and improve their general health and outlook.
  • EMPLOYMENT - Patients can take advantage of flexible dialysis scheduling to support employment, which affords self-esteem, a sense of identity and accomplishment, independence, a social outlet and a higher standard of living.
  • EVALUATION - Patients and staff participate in data collection and ongoing monitoring to improve patient care.
